There are few things I like more than coming home after a long day at work and cuddling into the couch with my best blanket.
It’s so relaxing, peaceful, and enjoyable when I’m snuggled up on the couch or in my bed underneath a cozy blanket.
Even at night right before I go to bed I prefer using something else rather than my heavy comforter so I always grab one of my favorite blankets from downstairs and use it to cover my feet while I read or just relax before going to sleep.
I have found that some of the different blankets made from a heavy quilt material or even cheaply made wool ones aren’t as good and it can actually make me feel stuffy and not as comfortable as I could be.
I was recently looking online to find a new blanket to add to my collection and I wanted to create this post sort of is like a jumping off point for anyone in the market for a new one as well as to share my recommendations when it comes to what I believe are some of the best blankets to use.
Of course you’re going to want to consider the material that any blanket that you’re interested in is made from as well as how warm it could be but there are some other factors that should be considered as well.
Before diving into my recommendations I want to cover a few tips when it comes to buying a blanket for your home.
Blanket Buying Guide: Tips and Suggestions
One of the first things you’re going to want to consider if you’re in the market for a new blanket is its overall size.
There are so many different kinds available that come in all different shapes and sizes and you want to make sure that you pick the right one that isn’t going to be too short or too long for your preferences.
There are also some available that can match the size of your bed so you can pick ones that are king size, queen-size, or twin size which makes it possible to find a better fit for one that sits on top of your bed.
It’s a good idea to look at the specifications before buying a blanket so that you can see how long and wide it is and then determine whether or not it’s a suitable size for you to use at home.
The material of any of the different blankets that you’re interested in is another main consideration.
Some of the more popular materials include cotton, polyester, and wool but there are quite a few different options to choose from.
Be sure to keep an eye on the specific material to see if it’s a material that you would enjoy using and to also see how easy or hard it will be to wash or whether or not it’s going to be able to keep you warm during those cold winter nights.
Washable or Not
These days there are blankets that can be washed in the washing machine and there are also types that can only be washed by hand depending on the material it’s made from.
Personally, I don’t wash my blankets very often, maybe only once or twice a month depending on how heavily on using them, and I always prefer going with ones that can be simply tossed into the washing machine and quickly washed without me having to go through the effort of hand-washing it.
However, some are made from better materials that aren’t as durable so you’re going to want to make sure that it can be tossed into the washing machine if that’s something you’re looking for or if it’s hand wash only you want to make sure that you do that rather than machine washing it by accident.
Speaking of the material, you also want to consider the season that you’re going to be using the blanket for which is going to help determine the type of material that is better suited for your needs.
Materials such as fleece, wool, and knit are much better suited for the colder winter months and materials such as Egyptian cotton are much better suited for warmer summer months.
Try to keep this in mind when you’re looking at the different options available and make sure to pick one that’s best suited to the time of year you’re going to be using it for.
