As someone that works on my car quite a bit in my driveway and garage I find that car jacks make for an important and essential tool in my car maintenance arsenal.
Once I realized I needed one I began to search online for the best car jack to use at home so that I could more easily change tires or do maintenance underneath my vehicle without having to bust out my car ramps.
These days there are quite a few different floor jacks available to choose from with some of the most popular being the mechanical version that uses jackscrews, the hydraulic ones that use hydraulic power, or a combination of both types.
When you’re looking at the different jack options you’re going to want to pay attention to the lifting capacity that it offers to make sure that it’s possible to use it safely with the size and weight of your vehicle.
Try to keep an eye out for models that offer much more weight capacity than you think you would need, just to be safe, and to give yourself plenty of room to work with if you want to jack up a different car or truck.
You also should pay attention to the material that any automotive jack you’re interested in is made from.
I recommend looking at models that are made from durable and sturdy materials such as steel or premium grade aluminum and avoiding any that use cheap looking or plastic components that you don’t have much faith in.
Make sure that any of the automotive jacks that you’re looking at will offer a suitable lifting range for the amount of space you want your vehicle to be lifted and can be operated reasonably quickly without too much effort on your part.
With some of this introductory information out of the way let’s take a look at some of my recommendations that I want you to consider when it comes to finding the best automotive floor jack.
The Best Floor Jack
Torin T10152 Scissor Jack
The Torin T10152 Scissor Jack is one of the models that I kept stumbling onto during my own search for the best car jack.
It’s made from a rugged alloyed steel and features a heavy duty steel frame.
Whether you’re using it in your garage or out in the driveway there is a protective coating on the jack that’s impact resistance and also helps to prevent any rust from building up.
For more support and overall stability while it’s being used there is a 4.5-inch wide base along with a heavy duty steel saddle for resting the vehicle on.
As for the weight capacity, the Torin T10152 Scissor Jack supports up to 1.5 tons and offers up a lift range of anywhere between 3 ¾ to 15 ⅜ inches in lift.
It also comes with a handle that makes it easier to lift the vehicle once it’s properly positioned on the jack and the manual lift capability gives you control when it comes to how you want the vehicle once it’s mounted.
Keep in mind that if you’re looking for something portable this isn’t an option that I’d recommend but if you want a straightforward and no-frills automotive jack then I would recommend taking a look at the Torin T10152 Scissor Jack.
Powerzone 380044 3 Ton Aluminum and Steel Garage Jack
The Powerzone 380044 3 Ton Aluminum and Steel Garage Jack is another option that I would recommend checking out and I consider this jack to be a top-of-the-line model that I found to be incredibly practical for everyday home use.
It comes with a weight capacity of 3 tons, approximately 6000 pounds, and offers a lift range of between 4 inches and 18 ¼ inches.
The overall design takes advantage of a lightweight aluminum frame that helps to keep the jack add more manageable weight while making it portable and the lift arm is made from a heavy duty steel that makes it strong and durable.
I really like the design of this jack and I find that it uses the right materials in all the right places so that it’s lightweight and portable while still being strong enough to use for a vehicle without having to worry about its build quality.
Lifting the vehicle once the jack is properly positioned is done through a quick lifting hydraulic system so I find it much quicker than the manual ones and there’s even a safety valve that helps to prevent you from overloading the jack if its rated weight capacity is exceeded.
The saddle features a rubber coating so that there isn’t any metal on metal rubbing against your vehicle once it’s mounted and the handle comes with a foam cover that offers a better grip and also helps to protect your vehicle if it happens to bump into the side panel.
For even more portability is jack is equipped with wheels so it’s possible to roll it around and position it without having to drag it on the ground and there’s even a handle on either side for more precise positioning underneath your vehicle.
One of the features that I like is that when it’s not being used to handle can be removed and stored away so that it’s not taking up too much space in the garage or storage area with an awkwardly positioned handle.
Arcan ALJ3T Aluminum Floor Jack
The Arcan ALJ3T Aluminum Floor Jack is made from aluminum and offers a lifting range of between 3 ¾ (minimum height) and around 18-inches of lift.
It boasts a total weight capacity of 3 tons and weighs just 56 lbs so it’s sturdy and durable while still being lightweight and manageable to control.
When it comes to moving it around and positioning it underneath a vehicle there are bearing mounted swivel casters along with a handle on either side length-wise for more precise positioning.
The saddle is padded with a rubber pad to help prevent any direct aluminum contact with the frame of your vehicle and this job also comes equipped with bypass and overload valves that help to prevent it from being overextended or used beyond its rated weight capacity.
Not only is it safe and well equipped with helpful features but thanks to its aluminum design it’s also lightweight and easy to manage around the car.
The lift arm has been reinforced for additional strength while it’s being used and not only can the handle be removed for easier storage but it also comes equipped with a quick lock feature for getting it set up and ready to use without having to fumble around with any unusual locking mechanisms.

The Powerbuilt 620422E Heavy Duty Lift Jack offers a weight capacity of 4000lbs and thanks to the locking safety bar that it comes equipped with the jack is held in place while a vehicle is mounted and lifted so there’s not much of a need to use a dedicated jack stand.
There is a lift saddle that can be removed as well as padded lift rails that help to prevent any damage to the frame of your vehicle while it’s mounted.
For better positioning of the jack underneath your vehicle there are four wheels that allow it to be moved around for a more precise position without having to drag it on the floor but unfortunately there aren’t any side handles, which is a feature I like to see on car jacks.
I really like having the large saddle as for me it helps to eliminate some of the guesswork involved in positioning the jack in the right spot and I feel better overall being able to use this without having to rely on jack stands once the car is lifted.
Weighing in at 85 pounds it’s quite heavy but I find that the weight adds a certain stability to it and helps to keep everything in place while it’s being used.
Arcan XL20 Black Low Profile Steel Service Jack
The Arcan XL20 Black Low Profile Steel Service Jack has a 2 ton lift capacity and takes advantage of a low profile design that makes it compact, easy to store, and suitable to leave in the trunk of your car if you’re so inclined.
It offers a lifting range of between 3.5 inches as the minimum up to 18.1 inches as the maximum lift And there is a rubber pad that fits into the center part of the saddle so if you want to keep the raised metal parts covered you’ll have to find something else to use in that case.
There aren’t any side handles but there are two swivel wheels along with two fixed wheels that make it easier to position this jack into place under a vehicle and remove it once you’re done using it.
For quick rising action there is a dual pump system and it’s even equipped with a safety valve that helps to prevent it from being used if it’s overloaded.
Thanks to the universal joint release mechanism you’re able to take advantage of precise control while you’re using it and at just around 67 pounds in weight it feels sturdy on the ground and it’s not that heavy to be unmanageable.

The Blackhawk B6350 Service Jack offers up a 3.5 ton capacity and takes advantage of a heavy duty steel construction for overall strength and durability.
Thanks to a special bypass device you’re able to avoid over-pumping it while you’re trying to lift the car or vehicle and there’s also a built-in internal safety valve that helps to prevent overloading and keep it safe while it’s being used.
For even more stability the side frames are rolled and this helps to keep it rigid and reduce twisting once there was a lot of weight being placed on the jack.
The saddle comes equipped with a swivel so that it can be better positioned to depending on where you want it and it’s also padded to prevent damage to your vehicle while it’s mounted.
For even more accurate positioning there are two swivel wheels along with a pair of fixed wheels so it’s quite reasonable when it comes to getting this jack in place underneath your car or truck.
As for the handle, it’s quite a reasonable length so you’re able to use this jack standing up and a distance away from the vehicle so that you’re not standing next to it in case it happens to fall off and the handle is thick and sturdy so you’re able to enjoy a nice grip while you’re using it.
Performance Tool W1614 Floor Jack
The Performance Tool W1614 Floor Jack is one of my favorite car jacks and I really like it because of the 2 ton capacity that it offers along with a total weight of just around 25 pounds.
It’s lightweight so I’m able to leave it in my trunk just in case I happen to need it in case of an emergency and it also boasts a heavy duty steel frame so I have confidence in its ability to work well whether I’m in the garage or on the side of the road.
It can be used to lift cars and other vehicles up to 15 1/2 inches in height with a low minimum height of 5 1/4 inches.
For positioning it underneath the vehicle there are swivel casters at the back and a pair of fixed wheels at the front that help when it comes to moving it around and there’s even a handle on the top for more precise positioning and that also makes it easier to carry and put away when it’s not being used.
One drawback I noticed is that doesn’t come with a padded saddle although I’m able to overlook that fact thanks to its lightweight design and durable build quality.
