Apart from being a huge stickler when it comes to keeping the interior and exterior of my car clean I also like to use accessories that can help protect the interior from getting any more dirty than it needs to.
With that in mind I’m always out looking for the best floor mats for cars to use in my Volvo and during my recent search when I was looking to upgrade to a new mat set I came across quite a few different options that I would recommend checking out if you’re also in the market for new car floor mats.
I use the mats all year round, always in the summer and especially during the wet and grimy winter months when snow, moisture, and road debris gets tracked into the car much more often.
Even in the summer it helps to make vacuuming the carpets in the car much easier when you can just lift up the mat and shake it out outdoors to get rid of any of the dirt and debris that collects.
I noticed that there were quite a few options when it came to the different car mats available so I wanted to create this post as sort of a guide to make it easier to find what I recommend as the best car mats.
The Best Floor Mats for Cars
Armor All 78840 4-Piece Black All Season Rubber Floor Mat
When it comes to being able to enjoy 4-season protection for the carpeting in the well trafficked areas in your car or truck it’s the Armor All 78840 4-Piece Black All Season Rubber Floor Mat set that I would recommend checking out.
These floor mats are made from rubber which makes them not only lightweight but also quite durable and they come equipped with a deep tread pattern that’s able to collect dirt, moisture, and debris while keeping your shoes from sitting in any mess while you are driving around.
On the bottom are some anti-claw cleats that help to keep the mats in place and prevent them from shifting around or moving when you’re in the vehicle.
Armor All is a brand that I have experience using in the past and so far I’m quite impressed with their wide range of different products when it comes to automobile accessories so I’m happy to recommend their all-season rubber interior floor mats.
Depending on the size of your car or truck it’s possible to trim the outside edges of the floor mat so that you can make sure that they fit much better and there’s universal cut lines so that there’s no guesswork involved and you can just trim to your preferred size.
The heavy-duty rubber that these mats are designed from offers the carpeted flooring in your vehicle ample protection from debris, dust, dirt, and moisture from the outdoor weather elements so you’re able to drive regardless of the weather without having to worry about the carpet getting soaked or dirty from your shoes.
The rear mats offer protection for the floor when anybody is sitting in the back and also thanks to the contoured design on the top your feet are able to maintain a solid grip while you’re driving.
Depending on the interior color of your car there are three different colors of mats to choose from so you can match it to fit your interior however you prefer.
These mats are easy to install, simply trim them to fit the interior carpeting floor space of your car and then slide them in, and they can also be slid out when they need to be rinsed off and washed.
OxGord Universal Fit 3-Piece Floor Mat
The OxGord Universal Fit 3-Piece Floor Mat is a 3-piece set where you get a separate mat for both of the front carpet floor spaces and the rear mat is attached in the middle for added protection.
Getting these mats setup and install is quite straightforward and it’s possible to trim them so that you’re able to install them with a much better fit inside your car without having to worry about parts of the mat sliding up the edges or getting caught underneath the seat.
The mats themselves are made from rubber band this makes them easy to clean whenever they’re dirty or full of debris and also protects your carpets and car flooring from excess moisture and dirt that is especially prevalent during the winter season.
To clean them you just need to take them out, other hose them down or buying them against the side of your house or fence, and using a little bit of soap and a microfiber cloth just give them a quick scrub down until they’re as clean as you want.
On the bottom you’ll find a series of ridges that help to keep the mats in place while they’re installed in your car or truck and thanks to the top design the mud, snow, and rain gets trapped in the mat while ensuring that your shoes stay clear from the bulk of the moisture.
I quite like the single piece that is designed to go in the back seat because it also protects that small ridge between the seats that you find in sedans and also keeps the carpeting protected when there isn’t the ridge and it’s just a flat piece of carpeting that you find in trucks and vans.
Depending on your preferences and the interior color of your car these mats come in 3 different colors with the 4th option being the clear mats that you can use if you still want to see your carpet without damaging it from regular use.
This set boasts a universal fit and while it can be trimmed to fit into smaller car floor spaces it’s a good idea to check the exact dimensions of both these mats and of your car or truck just to make sure that there is enough room for them to be installed.
OxGord FMPV01A-BK Ridged Heavy Duty Rubber Floor Mats
The OxGord FMPV01A-BK Ridged Heavy Duty Rubber Floor Mats are similar to the ones that I just mentioned but this set comes in 4 pieces with the rear mats coming in separate pieces on their own.
The difference with them not being attached is that some people don’t prefer having the single rear mat protector covering the space between the floor and in some cars it might not fit that well or it might look awkward depending on the size of the vehicle.
I find that where the floor mat is attached is very well suited for trucks and vans where the floor space in the back is much more flat and the separate mats are well-suited for cars where you just would need a little bit of protection on the floor for each seat.
These mats are made from a durable rubber material and are quite weatherproof so they’re able to capture moisture without having it seep into the floor carpet.
Also, to make it easier to fit these into the interior of your car or truck they can be customized by trimming the edges until they’re ideally sized to fit in your car.
These are available in 3 different colors with a 4th clear option also available depending on your preferences.
OxGord Full Set Heavy Duty Carpet Floor Mats
The OxGord Full Set Heavy Duty Carpet Floor Mats is one of the carpet floor mat sets that I came across when I was looking for mats to use in my car during the dry season when it doesn’t snow as much and hardly rains.
Sometimes I don’t always need to use the all-season mats, especially if I’m just bopping around the city without planning on tracking too much dirt or moisture into the car, and when that’s the case these are the ones that seemed most suitable to use.
It’s a 4 piece set so it comes with two mats for the front and two mats for the back and what I liked about the front mat for the driver side is that it comes with a small heel pad so that the mat doesn’t get worn down when my foot is resting on it during driving.
To keep everything in place there is a nibbed backing that helps to keep the mats secure when they’re placed on the regular floor carpeting and just in case they do need to be washed they are 100% washable and can be cleaned quite easily.
For cleaning I would usually vacuum them after removing the mats from the car and if they need a deeper clean that then I would use a dedicated carpet cleaning solution so that I could get them as clean as possible before putting them back in.
Depending on your preferences there are a wide range of different color choices available to choose from and I would recommend checking this out if you’re interested in using carpet mats to protect of the original floor carpeting in your car and to make the interior easier to clean.
WeatherTech AVM All-Vehicle-Mat
The WeatherTech AVM All-Vehicle-Mat is a set that comes with 4-pieces, two mats for the front, and two for the back, and they feature indicated trim lines so that they can be trimmed to fit the interior floor space of your vehicle.
The two rear mats are identical in size with the front ones coming with their own left and right fit.
All of the mats come equipped with a grip on the bottom to help prevent them from sliding and slipping around while they’re being used and thanks to the ridges and channels moisture flows down into the bottom reservoir where it’s able to be kept away from your shoes when you’re using the vehicle.
Should you happen to notice that the reservoir is a little bit too full of moisture and liquid has begun to pool you can quickly remove the mat out of the car, pour out the liquid, and then either let it dry outdoors or place it back into the vehicle so that the mats can be used again.
Depending on your preferences there are three different colors to choose from and there’s also a cargo mat available from WeatherTech that you can use in your trunk for added protection for the trunk floor space.
Using and Caring For Your Car Floor Mats
After having installed any floor mats for your car it’s a good idea not to neglect them if you’re hoping to extend their lifespan and enjoy more than just one season with them.
When you’re considering all of the different options trying to keep an eye out for any tips or support that any mat offers on the bottom that helps keeps it in place and prevents it from bunching up or moving around while you’re driving.
Sometimes some of the different mats available can have a plastic odor when they are brand new and if this is something that you don’t want you can let them air out for a short while before you install them.
It’s a good idea to clean the mats as well as the carpeting inside your car on a regular basis and this is especially important during the rainy or winter season when a lot more dirt and moisture can get trapped in the carpets and mats.
For the different options that can be trimmed to fit a specific size you can use your stock mats as a guide rather than just getting to see how everything fits and this could ensure a better fit overall.
One more thing to keep in mind is that you never want to put a new set of mats over an existing set that is already in your vehicle – this could just make them more likely to slide around and it’s possible that the mat could get stuck under the pedals which could be dangerous.
