About a year ago I started getting some weird pains in my leg and lower back after I would be sitting down for an extended period of time throughout the day.
I have actually started using a standing desk but I also begin my hunt for the best kneeling chair since I had heard they were a great alternative to just using one of those standard office chairs that aren’t that ergonomic and in my case didn’t offer much support.
Today, I want to share some of the different kneeling chairs that I found online that I would recommend using.
After going over my recommendations I’ll share some helpful information on how to choose the right one and why you should consider using one as well.
The Best Kneeling Chairs
Flash Furniture WL-SB-210-GG Mobile Wooden Ergonomic Kneeling Chair
It was the Flash Furniture Kneeling Chair that was the option for the best kneeling chair that I kept coming across and that I ultimately picked up to use in my home office.
There are two different colors to choose from, a black one and a gray one depending on your preferences, and I really liked the natural wood frame finish that gave it a much more natural appearance.
With this a kneeling chair it’s possible to adjust the height thanks to an adjustable frame and the seat and the knee rest are covered in a thick padding that makes it comfortable to sit for extended periods of time.
There are dual wheel casters that make it possible to roll around while seated in this chair and it can be used by anyone up to 200 pounds in weight.
I didn’t run into any issues assembling it and although I didn’t find the instructions that detailed it’s not that difficult to put together if you put your mind to it.
Overall, this chair offers a sturdy seating alternative compared to your standard office desk and it’s also comfortable to use while encouraging a good posture.
Office Star Work Smart Knee Chair
The Office Star Work Smart Knee Chair is another kneeling chair that I would recommend checking out and one that I also considered when looking to add one to my office.
It comes equipped with a memory foam seat cushion that offers suitable comfort when using this chair and it has been designed with ergonomics in mind in order to promote a healthy posture when sitting for an extended period.
There are two different color choices to choose from, an espresso one and a mahogany one, end the chair is equipped with rollers so it’s possible to roll around the office while sitting on it.
Boss Office Products B248 Ergonomic Kneeling Stool
The Boss Office Products Ergonomic Kneeling Stool Comes equipped with a pneumatic gas lift seat that allows for the height of the seat to be easily adjusted and the knee pad height can also be adjusted to make it possible to find a comfortable seating position.
The design of this kneeling chair encourages an upright position and helps to promote a more ergonomic posture which helps to reduce any of the strain placed on the lower back and lumbar muscles.
Both the seat and the knee pads are covered in a black fabric and although I find them to be quite soft I would recommend using a pillow for even added comfort while sitting for an extended period of time.
The chair itself comes in a black color and is made from a tubular steel frame.
Thatsit Balans Chair
The Thatsit Balans Chair was one of the more interesting kneeling chairs that I came across and I really wanted to recommend it for its overall design style as well as practicality to use for anyone suffering from spine or lower back pain.
It comes equipped with Runners and shouldn’t rest that can be adjusted depending on your preferred height and the sitting position encourages your spine to stay in it’s natural curvature without placing too much pressure on any one given area.
The backrest can also be adjusted and with the wings that are located on the backrest it possible to stretch your upper body and take advantage of a wide open and deep stretching feeling.
Not many of the chairs that I looked at came with a backrest and I could really appreciate the support that this one offered along with it being possible to rock rather than having to rely on wheels to keep you in place.
As for the design, this chair is made from beech wood and the padded rests are covered in a wool fabric.
Mobile Wooden Ergonomic Kneeling Posture Chair
The Mobile Wooden Ergonomic Kneeling Posture Chair is another interesting kneeling chair that I came across and in some cases it can be good to consider one that comes equipped with a backrest.
The frame of this one is made from wood and it’s possible to adjust the frame depending on your height preferences.
The back, knee rest, and seat are thickly padded and are covered in a dark blue fabric.
Thanks to the reclining backrest it possible to remain seated in a more standard sitting position or you could also lay back in a much more relaxed position depending on what’s comfortable for you and what you need to get done.
A Guide to Kneeling Chairs
What is a Kneeling Chair?
Over the last few years with more and more people suffering from lower back pain and other issues caused from sitting in a standard desk chair for too long kneeling chairs have become quite popular.
The reason why they have risen in popularity is that they provide an ergonomic seating option that encourages a healthy posture and helps to relieve pain caused from sitting for extended periods of time.
With these chairs much of the weight is placed on your shins and knees rather than on your sitting bones and because of this layout there is a lot less pressure on the lower back.
Also, because many of the different options come without a dedicated backrest there is a lot more range of motion that’s encouraged and it’s much more easier to keep the back and a healthy your position without relying on the backrest and awkward angles.
Keep in mind that kneeling chairs aren’t the best solution for everyone suffering from any issues that might be caused by sitting for too long.
Despite all of the padding that’s available on these chairs anybody that has knee problems might not be able to use one properly as the pain caused from putting too much weight on the knees may be worse than any pain in the sitting bones or lower back.
One of the main reasons why kneeling chairs work so effectively is because they place you at a declining angle naturally rather than you sitting in a 90 degree angle that you typically find with office chairs.
This declining angle provides more space for the hips and allows them to stay lengthened rather than being contracted when sitting in a more standard chair.
For many people, this is something to definitely consider especially for those suffering from such ailments as a sciatica, lower back pain, and lots of tense muscles in the neck and shoulders from sitting too long without the proper posture.
Why Should I Use a Kneeling Chair?
Many people have claimed that kneeling chairs help to alleviate lower back pain very quickly.
The reason for this is because of the upper body becomes positioned into a much better ergonomic posture and when there isn’t a dedicated backrest to rely on the body automatically puts itself into a better posture.
Even without a backrest it still possible to slouch but it’s much harder to slouch backwards since there isn’t any support and forward slouching is kept in check thanks to the knee supports and lack of arm supports.
One thing to keep in mind is that this is just one small part of the problem when it comes to fixing posture and you want to make sure that all of your ergonomics are up to speed so that it’s possible to take full advantage of a healthy posture while working at a desk.
Especially for people that work in an office it’s safe to say that many of the waking hours are spent in a sitting down position end it’s easy to sit with poor posture especially after having been sitting down for so long.
Even if you’re not searching forwards it’s also very likely that you’re just slouching backwards and all of the weight of your upper body is putting pressure on your lower back.
Using kneeling chairs you’re automatically sitting in a better position and by using them on a regular basis you’ll eventually create a better posture a habit that will keep you sitting properly upright even when you’re not using the kneeling chair.
How do I Know Which Chair to Use?
With so many different options to choose from it can be difficult to pick the right kneeling chair for your preferences and health needs.
That’s why I wanted to share some of my recommendations for the best kneeling chair so that you’re able to see some of the different options that I suggest and get a better look at what it might be you’re interested in.
Here are some of the different features to look out for:
Can the height be adjusted?
There are some chairs available that allow you to adjust the height of the different pads depending on your preferences While others don’t allow any adjustment at all.
Ultimately it’s up to you to decide if there’s any adjustments you want to make and I have found that both adjustable and non adjustable ones can be used comfortably as long as you make sure to get up about once an hour and walk around for a quick break from sitting.
Obviously you’re going to spend time sitting down Indy’s kneeling chairs and it’s a good idea to see what materials the cushioning is made from.
One thing that I learned is that even with plenty of cushioning it’s still a good idea to use a pillow for even more comfort, especially if you find that there is a lot of pressure being placed on your knees.
You also want to keep an eye out to see what some of the basic features are that any of the chairs are interested in come equipped with.
For example, some of them come with wheels and this is good if you’re in an office setting and you’re rolling around a lot while others are meant to be left in a more permanent place.
Another thing to look for is the construction material where you’ll find some are made from wood and some are made from a steel or metal material so durability is one factor to keep in mind.
