When it comes to finding the best MacBook case there are two different styles to choose from.
There are hard ones that feature a hard case and offer a little bit more protection against bumps, drops, and scratches.
The drawback with hard cases is that they tend to be both here and are usually fitted onto the MacBook directly so it’s always going to be attached unless you want to remove it.
The other type are soft cases, or sleeves, and these are more portable while still offering protection against bumps and scratches.
As with Macbooks, and any other tech device, I always recommend considering ways to keep it protected from any accidents that might happen such as dropping it, bashing it on the corner of a desk, or having it scratched accidentally.
I prefer using the soft cases, or sleeves, since normally my laptop stays in a stationary position and I don’t move it around too much all the my girlfriend has had a lot of luck using hard cases in conjunction with the sleeve.
Ultimately it’s up to you to decide which type of case you want to use but above all I would definitely recommend any case regardless of which one you pick just in case something happens and you want to take advantage of any preventative measure you can.
In this post I want to talk about some of what I consider to be the best MacBook cases, covers, and sleeves.
Keep in mind that it’s a good idea to read the features of the specific case, cover, or sleeve that you’re interested in to make sure that it fits the MacBook size that you’re using – I’ll make sure to mention the specific size of each of my recommendations as well to help avoid anyone getting confused.
The Best Macbook Cases
Mosiso Plastic Hard Case (Macbook Pro 13-inch Retina)
The Mosiso Plastic Hard Case is one of my top recommendations and a hard case that I find suitable for those using the 13 inch Macbook Pro with the retina screen.
Not only does it come with the case but it also comes with a keyboard cover to keep the keys protected from stains and just general use and also a screen protector for added screen protection as well.
The case is completely vented which helps for safe heat disbursement and offers full access to all of the buttons and different features of the laptop such as the ports and charging port.
Putting it on is quite straightforward as it features a snap on design and you’re going to want to be careful when removing it as too much force could cause a crack or a piece to snap off (happened to my girlfriend).
On the bottom of the case are rubber feet that help to keep it in place while it’s being used and also helps to prevent it from slipping around on any smooth desks or table tops.
Finally, depending on your preferences, there are a wide range of different colors to choose from so you can hopefully pick your favorite one and be proud to show off the bright and colorful case.
There’s also a hard case available by Mosiso for the:
- 12-inch Macbook Retina Display
- 13-inch Macbook Air
The Best Macbook Sleeve
I personally prefer using a sleeve for my Macbook because I find them a lot more practical and I don’t like leaving the laptop exposed, even when it’s in a hard case, when it’s in my backpack.
I also don’t like how the hard cases feel and with the hard ones on I’m not able to appreciate the portability and aluminum design of my Macbook so I like to use a sleeve so that I can put it in and pull it out quickly and still not worry about it when it’s in my backpack.
Sleeves also help to protect the device from dust and other small debris and particles when it’s in a backpack or shoulder bag and some of the thicker once, especially those with a neoprene design, still offer plenty of protection from bumps and drops.
One thing to keep in mind is that I find that the hard case definitely offers more protection from drops and bumps when the laptop is out and exposed and I’ve actually dropped my Macbook before without a case on and dented it up pretty badly.
However, I’ve been using a neoprene sleeve for more than four years since I got my very first Macbook Pro and so far I haven’t run into any problems with it while it’s been in my messenger bag, backpack, and even in a suitcase.
Anyways, here are some of my recommendations of what I believe to be the best MacBook sleeves.
Incase Neoprene Classic Sleeve (13-inch)
The Incase Neoprene Classic Sleeve is the one I use for my 13-inch Macbook Pro from mid-2012 and I’ve had it for more than four years without any issues at all.
I do believe that this might be a little bit too spacious for some of the newer models of 13-inch Macbooks as they’re quite thin these days although it could still be a suitable choice with a little bit of leftover room on the inside for any documents, papers, or even a magazine.
The sleeve is made from neoprene and this offers some decent protection from bumps and scratches while the laptop is inside the case and there is about three millimeters of cushioning.
Even with the laptop in the sleeve the setup still has a very slim and portable design and I find it very easy to just toss it into the laptop holder in my backpack without having to worry about it taking up too much space.
On the interior is a plush faux fur lining that’s soft to the touch and doesn’t scratch the aluminum exterior of the Macbook and it opens up from the top so the laptop easily slides in.
Depending on your preferences there are four different colors to choose from and I personally went with the black one just so that I didn’t have to worry about it staining and because it matches my black backpack as well.
So far I’ve been very happy with the Incase Neoprene Classic Sleeve (13-inch) and I would definitely recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a sleeve for your 13-inch Macbook.
Mosiso Water Repellent Neoprene Case (13 – 13.3-inch)
The Mosiso Water Repellent Neoprene Case is another sleeve that I would recommend checking out if you’re looking for one to use with a 13-inch Macbook Air or Pro.
This is a neoprene sleeve that comes equipped with a layer polyester foam padding for added protection as well as an interior lining of fleece that helps to prevent any scratches and offers some shock absorption from bumps.
The case itself is also water resistant and of course while I wouldn’t recommend bringing it out in the pouring rain storm the case does offer some added protection when it’s raining out without having to worry too much about it.
It also comes with a small storage pouch that can be used to keep the charger, headphones, mouth, or any other computer accessories that you might be carrying with you.
Thanks to the streamlined design is able to quickly slide into a backpack, messenger bag, or any other bag without bunching up and the top-loading zipper makes it convenient to access the laptop on the inside whenever it’s needed.
There are few different colors available as well depending on your preferences and I would definitely recommend checking out Mosiso Water Repellent Neoprene Case if you’re looking for a simple Macbook sleeve that’s also water repellent.
Incase Icon Sleeve with Tensaerlite (13-inch Macbook Pro Retina)
I find that the Incase Icon Sleeve with Tensaerlite offers ideal protection for the 13-inch Macbook Pro Retina.
The sleeve itself is made from neoprene with the bumper along the exterior being made from Tensaerlite.
The neoprene panels offer ample compression and are form-fitted so that a 13-inch MacBook Pro Retina is able to remain secure while it’s in the sleeve.
Around the edge of the sleeve is a hard bumper that’s made from Tensaerlite and offers ample shock absorption and impact protection while still being lightweight and ensuring that the case remains portable.
Rather than using a zipper for closing the case is closed using a secure magnetic closure design that helps to prevent any unwanted slips of the laptop and also helps to keep out any dust and debris.
One feature I really love is that with this case there is easy access to the ports so that it’s possible to charge the device while it’s in the case and still keep it protected without removing it from the sleeve.
If you’re looking for one of the most suitable ways to keep a Macbook Pro 13-inch Retina protected during transit then this is the sleeve that I would definitely recommend checking out.
