Dealing with mosquitos is annoying, pesky and downright uncomfortable at times.
In this post I want to discuss my recommendations when it comes to the best mosquito trap to use.
When you first start looking for a trap it’s probably because there are tons of skeeters buzzing around you when you’re outside of your home and you’re just looking for some quick relief.
A proper trap can make the area around your home more comfortable, safe and enjoyable to spend time in so you’re going to want to take the time to look into finding the best trap for your budget and needs.
One thing to keep in mind is that not all traps are the same and each one offers a different range of features and benefits.
With so many different options available it can be hard to know which ones are ideal so that’s why I’ve compiled my results in this post with what I found on my own personal search for the best mosquito trap.
However, even with a trap all of your problems aren’t going to go away.
Along with picking up a trap you also need to practice certain techniques to deter skeeters from visiting the area around your home and this includes cleaning up any breeding areas and possibly encouraging other insects or creatures that eat mosquitos to visit the area.
How Do Mosquito Traps Work
Many traps work by taking advantage of the sensory abilities of a mosquito and fooling them.
They lure the mosquito into a trap using a variety of different attractants such as:
- A combination of the above
This lures the mosquito into a trap or into a trapping container where it will then die.
In order for traps to work well they need to be placed in the ideal spots in your home or backyard.
Some of the best places for mosquito traps include anywhere with a lot of shade, close to standing or open water, and nearby to where people will be found most often.
You’ll want to try out a variety of different positions and traps until you find the setup that works the best for your needs.
The Best Mosquito Traps
Now that you’ve learned a bit more about traps and how they work let’s take a look at my recommendations.
The Best Outdoor Mosquito Traps
Flowtron BK-15D Electronic Insect Killer
The Flowtron BK-15D Electronic Insect Killer is one of the first options that I came across when I was looking for something to deal with the mosquitos on my back deck.
It covers a 1/2 acre radius, which should be suitable for small or medium sized backyards, and it works by using an ultra-violet light to attract mosquitos and other pesky flying insects and then they’re zapped as they come into contact with the electric grid that surrounds the light.
To get it set-up this device needs to be plugged in, so an outdoor extension cord is likely needed, and I recommend hanging it from a plant hanger away from where you’re sitting (although some of the models come with a hanging hook).
The outside housing is made from a sturdy plastic and it’s quite lightweight, portable, and easy to hang.
The Flowtron BK-15D Electronic Insect Killer is my top recommendation for the best mosquito trap and I recommend checking it out if you’re looking for a way to manage all of the flying pests in your backyard or around your home.
